Effective treatment of disease, trauma and pain requires greater visibility inside our patients. Engage AVI to enhance your diagnostic capabilities and improve your patient outcomes.
We provide advanced imaging referral services to the western and upstate NY veterinary community to ensure better diagnosis and improved patient outcomes. AVI provides veterinarians with outpatient access to CT Scanning and Ultrasonic imaging from our facilities in Rochester, NY.
Veterinary CT Scanning
CT scans are an in-depth, 3-dimensional image that can be stacked and manipulated to identify tissues more clearly than traditional x-rays or ultrasounds. With this technology, you can make better determination and decisions for your patient's medical care and determine next steps. CT scans are ideal for imaging areas of the patient that are difficult to capture with traditional x-ray or ultrasound.Common problems diagnosed with CT scans include:
Neurological seizure (epilepsy, meningitis, neoplasia)
Aural disease (ear polyps, vestibular disease, neoplasia)
Muscular-skeletal trauma (definition and diagnosis when X-rays are insufficient)
Tumor identification (location, scope, definition, surgical viability)
Pulmonary disease (metastatic evaluation, pneumonitis, cardiac disease)
Spinal injury ( cervical to lumbar-sacral)
Peri-ocular or skull disease ( trauma, neoplasia, infection)
Urinary/Renal Diseases ( Congenital Ectopic ureters, renal dysplasia)
Portosystemic shunts evaluation… and so much more!
How to engage AVI for CT Scans
STEP ONE – AVI requires a referral form from the pet’s primary veterinarian to perform all CT scans. Once AVI receives a referral form, we will review the medical records, bloodwork, and referral information prior to scheduling a CT scan time.

It is our top priority to ensure that we achieve safe and comfortable anesthesia for all CT scan patients. AVI will contact the referring veterinarian if additional information is required, such as prior anesthesia experiences, chronic medications or diseases to consider with anesthesia, ensuring a safe and successful imaging procedure. NOTE: If your patient requires Gabapentin or trazodone for a comfortable and less anxious day at the veterinary office, then please dispense the common dose for his/her comfort while at AVI for Imaging procedures.
STEP TWO - AVI will then contact the pet parent for scheduling the CT scan at a mutually agreeable time for their schedule. AVI performs routine CT scans on Wednesday mornings with drop-off between 8:00 and 8:30 AM at our facility at 3505 Buffalo Road, Rochester, NY 14624. Owners are not expected to remain on site during the imaging procedure, but pick-ups are expected between 12:00 – 2:00 PM on the same day. Results are e-mailed to your referring veterinarian with the link to the images typically within 48 hours.
